Mobidia, Inc. - Overview
Enhancing Wireless Data
The Company and its Products
Mobidia has developed a unique, award-winning mobile software solution named .wave that provides mobile network operators with powerful new handset based data traffic management solutions for their mobile data users. Mobidia’s .wave solution enhances mobile data by monitoring and managing per application, service, user, and network type using client software running on mobile handsets communicating with server software using Mobidia’s Dynamic Multi-media Protocol (DMP) - a powerful and more efficient protocol that transparently replaces the TCP/IP protocol over the air. In a recent network trial with a 3G European tier 1 operator, peak network capacity was improved 15% and downloads were accelerated 30%.
Mobidia’s .wave solution was created from a bold and exciting vision. There has been a tenacious focus on building a broad patent portfolio that protects all of the unique aspects of the product, achieving rapid, high quality software development and innovation in the process.
Mobidia has been supported financially and strategically via an excellent board of directors and advisors and is still executing successfully on its original plans, on time and on budget.
Addressable Market
Mobile data is forecast to drive 40% of all mobile revenue for network operators by 2011 with significant new trends emerging, such as social networking and peer-to-peer multimedia content delivery. Operators need better wireless technologies to manage and improve the efficiency and performance of the data-intensive applications that are running on their networks. Enterprises also need better tools to monitor and control costs associated with their mobile workforce.
Of the 1.1 billion mobile phones that shipped in 2007, 22% were in Mobidia’s targeted smart phone and converged device category, offerng users the rich multi-media and enterprise data services that are driving the new trends. This market is projected to continue to experience robust compounded growth for the next several years.
Mobidia’s .wave solution has been designed to addresses all current and anticipated 2.5G, 3G and 4G/WiMax wireless networks and has been tested with Windows Mobile/XP/Vista, and is in the process of being released for other high level operating systems including iPhone, Symbian and Android/Linux. .wave will also be ported to legacy operating systems based on operator demand.
Competitive Landscape
Mobidia’s main competitive advantage lies with its unique control over the uplink data streams and its awareness of client side applications and user behaviors:
“Adding Mobidia’s client software [to vendor’s DPI product] will push the intelligence to the edge of the network providing carriers with the ability to understand, manage and control application behavior over their network and drive new service offerings in their mobile networks” – go-to-market infrastructure partner quote
“Mobidia’s uniqueness is in providing: a TCP/IP protocol alternative; application control and management for both the uplink and downlink; and for providing the granular information about networks, users and applications” – leading European operator quote
Mobidia’s only direct competitive threat comes from traditional deep packet inspection (DPI) companies with their server-side software approach to managing network policy enforcement and control. However, a number of these vendors also make natural go-to-market OEM partners for the Company (Mobidia’s go-to-market infrastructure partner is a case in point). Mobidia faces secondary competition from mobile data compression vendors.
